Simon Clarcke looks back at Amstel Gold Race: "Van Der Poel wanted the victory more than anyone else that day" [Long interview]

2020.04.26 15:08 Schele_Sjakie Simon Clarcke looks back at Amstel Gold Race: "Van Der Poel wanted the victory more than anyone else that day" [Long interview]

Wielerflits interview, that it was nice to hear a different point of view telling the story. There isn't any other news anyway, here is goes:
Simon Clarke looks back on Amstel Gold Race: "Van der Poel wanted the victory more than anyone else that day"
In the past week Simon Clarke had hoped to shine in the Ardennes classics as leader of EF Pro Cycling. Especially in his beloved Amstel Gold Race. The last edition of that race is inextricably linked to the victory of Mathieu van der Poel. But what was the story of the surprising number two? We talked to him via Skype for more than an hour. "I'm glad I was part of that never experienced emotional rollercoaster", Clarke says enthusiastically. Relive his race.
The first hours of the Amstel Gold Race 2019
In the winter of 2018 to 2019 the now 33-year-old Clarke was given a task by team boss Jonathan Vaughters. The message was: 'Turn into a one-day driver'. Together with his trainer Michele Bartoli (winner of the Amstel, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour of Flanders and the Tour of Lombardy) he worked hard on that goal. Through a strong spring, he was scheduled to start on Sunday 21 April in excellent condition at Het Vrijthof in Maastricht. "I love the Amstel Gold Race. It has always been a passion of mine to do that race. Liege-Bastogne-Liege is just a little too heavy with my qualities. Especially since Roche-aux-Faucons has been moved. But I just absolutely love the Amstel."
"When I was young, I grew up track cycling in Australia," Clarke continues his declaration of love. "During the track season we rode a lot of criteriums at the time, often twice a week. I learned how to stay in position, how to fight before every corner. Actually, the Amstel Gold Race is a 250 kilometer criterium," he chuckles. "The only difference is you don't ride it in small laps. I really feel at home in that race. It takes so much concentration, but you have to make sure you have enough to perform in the finals. That's not easy. A rider normally really needs a few years to master the course."
In his EF Pro Cycling team the spotlight for the start will be on Alberto Bettiol, who won the Vlaanderens Mooiste two weeks earlier. "Of course he had a super form. We had also done the Brabantse Pijl the week before. He was very strong there. We missed the decisive battle, but Alberto won the sprint with two fingers in his nose. I was also very good. Although I was also strong and motivated, I respected that Bettiol had an incredible form. He was normally the leader".
Earlier Clarke tanked a lot of confidence in Strade Bianche (eighth) and Milan-San Remo (ninth). He tried to take that condition with him to the Netherlands. "In the first hours of the race I always try to finish off. It's only after the second supply that I get going. Until then it is important to stay out of trouble. I have a trick for that. I always force myself to ride in the middle of one lane. Normally you drive in the middle of the road and you're safe. But in the Netherlands you have a lot of traffic islands. That's why I always try to stay in the middle of the left or right lane. Then there's the least chance I'll get into trouble with traffic obstructions".
Those cyclo-crossers don't choose the regular track.
When his imaginary alarm clock went off in the second supply zone, he was at the front of the peloton - in contrast to previous participations. He immediately handled his food bag well, which allowed him to stay at the front. "I'll never forget how that Lotto Soudal guy kept up the pace in the next stage. It's very tight and normally you can hardly move up there at fifteen kilometers. Because of the scorching pace of Lotto Soudal that was almost impossible last year. I kept saying to myself: 'It's good that I'm in this position, because it saves me a lot of energy compared to guys who ride behind me'. Like myself in other years', he laughs. "I knew I'd won a little battle there."
On the Gulperberg the speed was slightly reduced. Suddenly MVDP stowed away. A strange place, considering the fact that a wide track follows after that. "More," says Clark. "We know by now that a lot of those cyclocross guys like to throw themselves and do everything their own way. Chapeau, there's nothing wrong with that! Road cyclists often look at the races quite traditionally. Like: 'Okay, everyone always attacks here and this way'. But those cyclocross riders prove that it doesn't always have to go via the beaten track. At that moment I really thought: 'Alright, maybe he's going to rewrite the script to win the Amstel'. But the direct result of that attack was Deceuninck-Quick-Step's reaction. They worked hard to get Van der Poel back, but then they bet on a full team attack."
"It was clear that they wanted to make Van der Poel pay for his attempt", the Australian continues. "You can't drive up the Gulperberg as fast as he did and wasting unnecessary energy must have been their intention. Quick-Step succeeded, after which Julian Alaphilippe and Jakob Fuglsang drove off with a super impressive move. It turned out well for us, because Michael Woods was with them. We were very happy with that situation, because it kept Bettiol out of the line of fire. I kept making sure that we as a team had the situation under control. At that moment I thought the race was over. I was pretty sure Van der Poel didn't have the team to bring back Alaphilippe and Fuglsang, who soon had a one-minute lead".
On top of the Keutenberg they are told by EF Pro Cycling that Michael Woods had to unload at the front. "Suddenly we were chasing after the facts. Our luck was that there were still four of us in our group. Where we first put the pressure on Corendon-Circus, Alberto and I discussed what to do. With that situation we as a team wouldn't win anyway. So I took up my old role as road captain again. When Michael fell back into our group, I drove straight to him: 'Woods, you're unloaded. But you have to try to get back at those frontrunners now." Clarke must laugh at that statement now. "He and Lawson Craddock then did bear work up to the foot of the Cauberg. Just before entering the final round they had to get off."
Partners in crime: Clarke and Mollema
The excellent work of Woods and Craddock led to the other riders of that group trying to ride away on the Cauberg. But just before the penultimate passage at the finish it threatened to come to a standstill. "Just before the finish everybody straightened up a bit, to catch their breath. Bauke Mollema then attacked. In the race you always have the feeling: 'This is the attack I have to go with'. Bauke is a super strong rider. In the Vuelta of 2018 I duelled with him for stage win and as a rider I know him pretty well. When you can choose someone in the peloton with whom you want to attack in a duo, Mollema will be among the first on that list. I believe he is a very honest rider", says Clarke.
The rider from EF Pro Cycling thinks he looks a bit like his colleague from Trek-Segafredo. "He is super strong", the Aussie adds. "Bauke always co-operates well because he wants to maneuver himself into a winning position first. Only then does he race to win, instead of always hanging in the wheel and waiting for that chance. I think I have the same character. I also prefer to use more energy to create a chance for myself, rather than waiting for others to do the job. When I jumped with him and looked over my shoulder, I saw that no one was following. That was the point when the course became really interesting. The team leader cars didn't get the right information about the race situation. That didn't last until halfway through the last lap."
Clarke's team leaders were late in discovering that he was riding in the attack, as the TV director also found it difficult to see the fragmentation of the pitch. At that time there were less than ten kilometres to go. "Until then, I was still getting instructions through my ear to watch Bettiol. I didn't answer and thought they would soon see that I wasn't with him anymore, but that I was driving for him. Bauke and I had no indication of the time difference either. We knew the difference between the leaders and the group behind us. And we knew the difference between the leaders and the chasers (Michał Kwiatkowski and Matteo Trentin, ed.). The latter two we could see riding. Bauke and I drove as fast as we could and kept calculating what our gap would be. And whether we were getting closer."
"Then it was a duo time trial and it looked like we would ride for the places six and seven", Clarke tells about the situation he had ended up in with Mollema. In addition to the physical effort, the mental aspect of the day turned out not to be easy or easy to follow. "Maximillian Schachmann was still riding between Kwiatkowski-Trentin and the two of us. At that moment I became very enthusiastic: 'Top-10, that's really good for me! The team would be happy with that result. When we were near the Bemelerberg, we suddenly got the information that Van der Poel and five others were on their way. Then I thought: 'They were a bit behind, maybe we can hold them off to the finish'. But with three kilometres to go, they were already storming past us! Suddenly the whole situation was very different than before".
"Van der Poel was on a mission, he didn't see us.
Because the course was opened so early, the chaos was great. "If you had good legs and still had some energy left, you could really drag something out of the fire," Clarke looks back. "That group of five riders was strong and they worked very well together. Van der Poel pulled really hard, but the rest didn't skip a turn. So they were able to make up for a lot of space in the final kilometers and managed to get to Bauke and me. What I could tell from their faces when they joined us? Nothing! We didn't get the chance, because they drove really fast. Van der Poel kept accelerating, like he was on a mission. He didn't even see us when he caught up. He knew there were still riders ahead of us and he didn't care to take it easy. Van der Poel rode to win."
The amalgamation of the two groups caused Clarke to worry about his place among the top ten. "Bauke and I quickly jumped aboard the train that was passing by. We were trying to recover. For us it would turn out to be something like a sprint. For place seven through place twelve. Then I changed my mind again: 'Now I have to get ready for the best sprint I have left'. After I missed the Amstel in 2018 due to fractures in my vertebrae, I hadn't ridden the redrawn final yet. I'll never forget that crash with 2.5 kilometers to go. Van der Poel rode in front of our group and sprinted up that stretch as if the finish was at the top. We really went full speed there. Insane."
Where the chasers came closer, after several skirmishes in the head of the course, the tactical battle began there. "I still thought there was no possibility that the two in front were riding as fast as we were, on that stretch. We didn't know anything, but afterwards it turned out they were paddling there. We went really fast on the other hand. I decided to focus on Van der Poel. The days before I had looked back at his sprint in the Brabantse Pijl a couple of times. He was the lead out for Alaphilippe and Michael Matthews. And they didn't even come close, even though they're the two fastest guys in this type of race. Van der Poel shipped them off as if it were a local criterium, a training lap. That was really unbelievable. He was the man to beat."
Just after the summit of the Bemelerberg - the last slope of that day - the 33 year old Australian nestles himself in the wheel of the top favourite. "It was crystal clear to me: Van der Poel was too committed to try to win that race. All the attacks that would follow from then to the finish would be countered by him. I decided not to get out of his wheel. In the descent to the final kilometre Romain Bardet tried to get away just before we caught Schachmann. I had just raced with him in the Tour of the Basque Country, where he won three stages. But Schachmann wasted a lot of energy in the final lap by trying to cross over to the head of the race on his own. His speed for the final sprint had to be a little off, I told myself".
Unseen plot twist
Just before entering the last corner, Clarke suddenly starts to count heads in his group. And then he comes across two surprises. "I thought: 'Van der Poel and co joined me and Mollema, we wiped out Bardet's attack, we took back Schachmann... That means there are three more guys riding in front of us'. When we get around the corner that trio suddenly drives a few meters in front of us! I couldn't believe it! "And I was like: wow! Everything else messed up in my head. I started concentrating even better on Van der Poel's wheel. I knew how he would sprint, because of what he did in the Brabant Arrow. I was really happy that I had seen that replay a number of times. That's why I knew you had no other choice by almost stuck to his rear tyre'.
"With the gear he's got in his legs, you have to sit there," Clarke says. "I had quite a bit of self-confidence, too. I hadn't done a sprint to the hole all day, even though I kicked away five or six hundred watts with Bauke in the final. But I hadn't done the full maximum acceleration yet. So I knew I could still ride a good sprint. I also know that on my best days I come close to beating someone like Michael Matthews. But three days before that Van der Poel had beaten him so easily in the Brabantse Pijl... Only now Van der Poel had already played out my lead for about eight hundred metres. I thought I had a chance, now or never. He does that incredible lead out, and then he just got faster and faster and faster!"
Whatever Clarke tries, he's not from Van der Poel's wheel - picture: Cor Vos Clarke must confess: none of his group could do the same in the final kilometre as what Van der Poel did. "He was obviously the strongest. He determined the course in the last sixty kilometres, in various situations. What Van der Poel did that day was unbelievable. I've never seen anyone take control of a race like that before. With eight hundred metres to go, after 250 kilometres of racing. There are ten guys in his wheel and they don't even get close! Really unseen. It was an extraordinary experience to be part of that. The moment I crossed the finish line, I immediately thought: 'Wow, people are going to talk about this finish for years to come'. I can only imagine what it must have been like when you were sitting on the edge of your seat in front of the television, not knowing how it would end. Even though we didn't know that at the time."
An emotional roller coaster, sums up Clarke. "But with a fairy-tale ending. Mathieu van der Poel proved that day that he wanted that victory more than anyone else. As much as I love racing and as much as I want to win - just like everyone else - he really did deserve that victory. When the five of them came back, he was the guest who arranged that. The gear he put on that crash piece after the Bemelerberg... If he doesn't, the three of them stay out of the way. That we could still sprint for victory, was thanks to Van der Poel. Despite the fact that I had lost, it still felt like a victory to me. Without him, Bauke and I would never have taken back Alaphilippe and Fuglsang. Seen from my position, I only won places. Without Van der Poel's beastwork I would never have finished second in the Amstel Gold Race".

2020.04.25 02:43 emba15 A Look at the Bachelor Franchise on Dancing with the Stars

I can't believe I took the time to do this but here we go.
As a DWTS and Bachelor franchise fan, I decided to make a post about Bachelor franchise people on DWTS. If you're not a fan of DWTS or cringing, you probably have already scrolled on by and I don't blame you. Nothing in this post is particularly interesting or groundbreaking but thought it would be fun for those of us who watch both shows to discuss!
Who's your favorite bach/DWTS contestant? Your favorite/least favorite dances? Most memorable moments? Who else from the franchise would you have liked to see on the DWTS over the years?
I admittedly have not watched all of their dances as most of them weren't my favorite contestants on their respective seasons, and quite frankly, the franchise didn't send its best talent over the years. So instead of listing my favorites, I linked their best and worst dances (based purely on scores) to hopefully spark some discussion. S/o to Wikipedia for making this whole thing easy for me!
Some quick facts
Contestant DWTS Season Partner Placement Average Score
Trista Sutter 1 Louis Van Amstel Eliminated 1st (6th place) 18.5/30 (2 dance)
Melissa Rycroft 8 Tony Dovolani Third place 26.9/30 (16 dances)

Joe Amabile 27 Jenna Johnson Eliminated 8th (4th place) 19.5/30 (11 dances)
Hannah Brown 28 Alan Bersten Winner 25.6/30 (15 dances)

Trista Sutter (season 1)

Special shoutout to Trista for the first one ever eliminated from Dancing with the Stars! Premiering about 2.5 years after Trista's Bachelorette run, season 1 of DWTS only had 6 contestants and a controversial winner in General Hospital's Kelly Monaco. In her week 1 intro package, she wants to prove people wrong who think reality stars just go on TV to be on TV and don't have talent. She hopes America will come to see her as more than just Trista the Bachelorette, but as Trista the dancer.

2019.11.26 17:04 DB96Website The plus factor

In 2006 a pioneering concept in connected sport was launched by Nike. It was an activity tracker device to measure and record the pace of a walk or run more commonly known as Nike+iPod, in partnership with Apple. The Nike+ Running App followed and other products such as Nike+ Fuelband that were used by 28 million people in 2014. Today, Nike is engaging with more than 100 million consumers via the NikePlus membership program, which has been growing at 30% a year. Clearly, it takes time to develop deep and meaningful relationships, even with your most loyal consumers or fans. The wearables market, including smartwatches, head-mounted displays, ear-worn gadgets and smart clothing is expected to reach $51.54 billion in 2020. Plenty of growth opportunities for Nike and all other sports apparel and lifestyle brands.
On 12th November 2019, Disney launched its new video streaming service Disney+, available in the US, Canada and the Netherlands. 10 million people signed-up one day after the launch. All the more impressive as this is a crowded market and it took Netflix two years to gain its first 10 million subscribers. To encourage subscribers to sign-up, Disney is offering a free seven day trial followed by $7 per month subscription. In the US, Verizon customers with unlimited data mobile plans receive a year free of Disney+. Shares in Disney closed up 7% adding $18 billion to its market capitalization. The House of Mouse is a brand than influences both minds and markets.
Salah, Mane and Firmino are synonymous to Liverpool FC fans as Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars are to Disney fans. The famous red playing kit of Liverpool FC has recently been subject to a tug-of-war between New Balance, the existing supplier since 2015 and Nike. A disagreement was resolved in the courts resulting in Nike supplying the playing kit starting next season. According to media reports, the fee Nike will pay is lower than New Balance, £30 million vs. £45 million but Nike has vowed to sell the Liverpool kit in more than 6,000 stores worldwide. Enough textile has been reserved by Nike to sell 2.9 million kits when the new season starts in 2020.
For a sport brand that is globally recognized with several hundred million fans and followers, it was surprising to learn that almost 97% of the turnover of Liverpool FC was generated in the UK. Only £15 million of the £455 million in 2017/18 was generated beyond the UK market. No wonder management at the club are keen to expand overseas and hope Nike can play a role engaging with and selling more merchandise to these fans. Hopefully Nike will also partner for 13 years like they did with Manchester United which coincided with one of the most successful periods for the club on and off the pitch. Time will tell.
When it comes to long term partnerships and selling product outside the domestic market, Heineken is a brand that would be on most shortlists. The existing relationship with UEFA dates back more than 25 years. In addition to serious investments in the Rugby World Cup and Formula 1, Heineken has expanded their football portfolio to include EURO 2020 next to the UEFA Champions League 2021-2024 and Europa Conference League starting in the 2021/22 season, although the latter will be with the Amstel brand. As Heineken replaces Carlsberg at EURO 2020, this marks the end of another long standing partnership which began at EURO 1988. Strangely enough, Carlsberg were also a shirt sponsor with Liverpool from 1992 until 2010, which represented the longest association of a single brand with any football club in English football history.
In a world where millions are thrown around like confetti and short-term metrics such as reach, clicks or shares are used to measure efficiency, it is easy to forget that building sustainable and profitable partnerships takes time. The success of Nike+, Disney+ or Heineken+ did not happen overnight. What is your brand’s plus factor that will add value to your partners, fans and the bottom line?

Hi all,
I just got an offer from Amsterdam based company. I am moving to Netherlands but my partner is living in Leuven, Belgium. They are 220 km apart.

We are discussing to find a place in the mid-way. Do you think where can be the best option considering transportation with car and train? I will be working near Amstel-station and have a valid driving licence. She is in Leuven and doesn't have driving license yet so train is the option for now.

2019.01.26 16:58 Men-Are-Human The Carnage Vegan mockumentary by Simon Amstell is back on BBC iPlayer

It's a pro-vegan BBC comedy that pokes fun at meat eaters, and vegans, while seriously educating people. It's a great thing to show people who think we are 'preachy' because it mocks basically everything in its path. Check it out! It's what got me and my partner to finally leap from veggie to vegan.

2018.04.27 02:57 paulhorne22 ERIC HO

This post was created as I felt compelled to share my experience with Eric Ho's mentorship program that I'd signed up to, along with about 10 other mentees and paid £12,000 each for 1-year program. To provide authenticity of my account, I have provided PROOF of the receipt, plus his "up sell" to other programs, and how he boots people out at the end and there is no more contacts with him whatsoever. I have also found other website, where people have complaining and have lost money, like I had done. I will post the link below in the message, and it shows Eric Ho's company details from Gov.uk's Companies House, which are not worth what he claims, in fact many are in debt & closed down..

Here, I CHALLENGE Eric Ho to comment below this post if he thinks this is an unfair account, as he commented on his Facebook saying how this is not a true reflection of his program... I can provide PROOFs of all the accounts & experience detailed here, from other ex-mentees and how we'd all suffered and lost our savings, with no real value in the end... and if I can provide these proofs, will Eric Ho refund all our payments? Come on Eric Ho, I challenge you.. If you are honest, you should be able to take up this challenge than just comment in your FB..

First, see a link below, for the proof that I was his ex-mentee, so my details below comes from after going through his mentorship program, and it shows further proofs of "up sell", and how he booted everyone out in the end, and how we were only given 7-days to ask for our refund or else your payment is vanished!! And how is anyone suppose to know within 7-days that the mentorship was not a valuable program and it was full of "motivation" rally within a week of signing up?? See: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QT9POxakgkIrXFEQN8uS4VqtEcD08F89
See other people complain about Eric Ho's scam, and John Lee, and their method, which is just telling stories after stories and showing pictures of their success and cars (some outside the car show room) and claiming to be very successful, when they are not... company house record shows average financial statement.. https://www.propertytribes.com/eric-ho-t-127631542.html

Eric Hor, was introduced in one of John Lee's of Wealth Dragon seminar. There were bunch of us in the mentee group, mainly women who seemed vulnerable and naive i.e single mothers and old ladies. Eric Ho operates from his website, erichoofficial.com & hakademy.com.

Eric Ho promised a lots of things prior to signing up to his program and he promised all the mentees that he would help them to launch their business and in many cases, collaborate with his existing business and provide a platform and contacts to leverage our business... hence, paying £12,000 is worth it, in fact its cheap! However, it was far from that.. It became obvious after a few months, and until this point, it was all "motivational" stuffs i.e. meeting up with the group of mentees for dinner and drinks after one of his seminars in London and during these meet ups it was mainly him posting live videos on YouTube with bunch of mentees for his own marketing campaign (to show people what a good time we are all having and to get Likes and Shares). However, secretly many of his mentees were suffering as we forked out £1000 monthly towards his program and it was costing us more than our monthly mortgage payment!

Time goes fast, you set appointment with Eric whenever he is in London, but he sees all of his mentees after his 2-3 days seminar, where he is tired after long event, so it's rushed through as only 30mins appointment, and given generic advices and he is seeing mentees one after another.. During this appointments you go there and wait, he is talking to another mentee, then your turn comes, as you start the meeting, you see the anotehr mentee waiting for you to finish the meeting... so Eric Ho is in a rush to see you off. Hence, advices are given on the spot... He even forgets the last conversation you've had with him and repeats many comments / feedback that was given in the last appointment, as he sees all the mentees + new followers (to sign them up for his program) on that day... the new followers are far more important to him as they are a potential leads for another 12k per person and since we've already paid our fees and locked in the contract... we are a less priority for him. He forgets the action plan you had discussed with him in the last meeting and its clear that he cannot keep track of all his mentees seeing one after another after his long 2-3 days seminar event... He is very tired and gives you generic marketing advice. And when you make progress or need some suggestions from Eric Ho, our "mentor", he is out out of the country, somewhere overseas, posting videos from the beach about his luxurious lifestyle, flying business class flights and showing off his latest branded watch! and you are there stuck and unable to contact him or in the best case you receive a messages on Wats App. And that’s all...

You wait for him to return, but then you see another video from another part of the world, again, marketing himself and his seminars, and his new gadgets or a catchy video title and image of him and his latest girlfriend. Talking about his girlfriend.. he keeps using them in his video, to get likes and views, then after a year or so, there's a new girl and the old one is never seen again! And his new girlfriends are the seminar audience! At this time you start to doubt if Eric is serious about business. A true business man, a mentor should be there for you and know and care abot your business as much as you do.... not posting 5 videos, and 10 selfie a day! Think about it people.. his mind is occupied by social media posts and videos, and all he wants is NEW leads so he can generate additional fees... once you have paid, you are yesterdays newspaper to him..... You true business personnel dont act like this i.e. Fortune 500 companies executives, FTSE 250 leaders don’t act like a child showing off their new toys on a social media with his cars, watches, house etc.. Its unbearable as you begin to wonder that your payment is actually funding his lifestyle and his latest gadgets, and you are cant even reach him!

You begin to wonder and talk to other mentees and they all feel the same but no one dares to confront him as he is "so nice" and always so "positive" talking about "motivational stuffs", a sage, guru, who acts like one of those religious cult figures that brain washes people and builds up followers for his ulterior motive. The key here is, get likes and shares from Facebook, Insta, YouTube etc.. then get them to attend the seminar and then use classical sales technique i.e. "one day offer only" and sign them up for 12 months contract, where you can only ask for refund within 7 days (terms) and its impossible to know that you wont get any value within 7 days, so now you are locked in the contract and if you miss payment, Eric Ho and John Lee (Wealth Dragon) will send you red letter to take you to Debt Recovery and send bailiff to your house... and they have in-house lawyers workling for them, who emails you warning you of the consequences.... then you get worried and also have no time to go to the court and pay additional fee to solicitors not knowing you might lose more money because you have signed the contract... so you keep quite and pay the 12k!!! "Its numbers game" as they say... for example, get 100 likes and views, from that, get 20 people to seminar, then get 1 person to sign up and lock in 12 months contract... thats 12k! Now multiply this by few hundreds and thousands, then there you have it.. About 30-40 mentees a year, plus now "UP SELL" their other products, i.e. Public speaking, Forex, Property investments, Heath & Fitness, Spiritual mind etc.... thats their game! And make you bankrupt!!

By the way, if you want to learn Public Speaking, then just join your local Toastmasters club, where you will only pay between £50-£60 for 6 months!! with every 2 x weeks meetings, it will cost you more or less the same price of a coffee/tea per meeting. Toastmasters is everywhere, almost in every country. I have now completed almost my 10th speech. One thing about Public speaking is, its not a skill you obtained by attending a weekend or week long training that Eric Hor and John Lee is offering.. you must attend regularly every 2-3 weeks, even if you miss some meetings (that don't matter), to develop your skills. It's developed and built over time - not by attending short trainings on weekends or week-long program paying thousands of pounds/dollars. So dont be fool, don't pay Eric Hor and John Lee. Public speaking skills is like any other skills you learn, whether sports, or your regular exercise. If you stop going to gym for few months... what happens? Same with public speaking... you must attend regularly for at least 6-months to a 1-year.. then you develop skills + see other speakers do it, which you will pick up subconsciously, and when you step up to do your speech.. you will naturally exhibit skills (that you had picked up by watching other speakers on a regular basis by going to these meetings).. also, for every speech, you are given a detailed guide, as to how to structure it i.e. bullet points, linking between these points, and how to put a capturing opening and conclusive closing of your speech. You will also learn how to use body language, vocal variety, include research information in some speeches, which really helps professionals wanting to do great presentation for their work etc. And you become better at it, over time. You can never learn this over a weekend intensive course or week long course. Once you go through the Toastmasters club, the process will stay with you forever - just like driving a car or bike. So save you money from these fraudsters and join Toastmasters International club, which has nearly 16,000 clubs worldwide. You will also learn to take leadership roles as these two skills go hand in hand. Check out: toastmasters.org and click on "Find a club".

Eric Ho uses uses a traditional sales technique as he takes you through an emotional ride by sharing his stories, and others stories, and then says that he wants to work with "entrepreneurs" and he is looking to "invest" in the right business and "collaborate" with them, and this makes you feel like signing up to his mentorship, and it could perhaps, provide that opportunity to launch your business. With that mindset, he lures you towards him and when he offers the "1-day only" sales offer, at the end of the seminar to sign up, you do it! But there is no plan, no accountability, no real business expertise provided, except FULL of motivational stuffs, which you can nowadays watch on YouTube and feel the same or better. All you get is his regular get together for dinner and drink (which you have to pay yourself btw), and again, his posts on YouTube video promotions with all the mentee group for marketing to show what a good time we are having. Who will rant or show sad face on the video (live)?
I was in a group, where there was single mothers and some of them borrowed money from their parents to sign up to Eric's mentorship so she can make her business successful. She promised to pay back to her parents but it never happened as her parents passed away, before she could make any money. And Eric didn't even share the 50% profit that she had generated through her sales i.e. webinar sign-up consulting therapy work, after getting some leads from one of the webinar Eric had sets up. It takes her 3 months to get her 50% share. She even cried in one of our meet ups and shared her story. Another lady, Psychologist, that signed up, she spoke on the Eric's stage few times, she was very happy, got her to give him fantastic testimonial, she changed her title to "international speaker", and time goes fast... soon it was 12-months and she was crying in one of Eric's seminar at the back stage because it only hit her that she hasn't made her money back but paid 12k! Eric saw her cry, he knew WHY! as others try to sooth her, but he went on the stage and did his gig! There was no remorse nor any sympathy...... yet he acts like he feeds those childred in Kenya! Oh by the way, it was told that this charity is not his set up... it was existing orphanage and they would work with anyone that give them donation and you can put that in your business as a social enterprise business. And why wouldn't they accept donation for such purpose?

Another mentee, similar type of business, didn't get anything i.e. 50% commission, so he stopped asking after few times and completely dis-engaged with Eric and stopped talking completely after about 6-months in the program.

Eric lied to another mentee suggesting that he will use his product in his existing business to collaborate with him and launh his product in his YoYo Noodles bars, which Eric supposedly owns. He signed up to it, but it never happened and when he asked to Eric about it, after few months of developing a product and brand, Eric simply said that he had already sold his noodle franchise business. So he can't help him! However, it turned out to be a plain lie as Eric still owned the business and he was participating in Franchise trade shows later that year. He still owns this YoYo Noodle franchise and can be easily seen in Google search.

Another mentee couldn't afford the fees, so she was called by their staff called Marcos from Wealth Dragon, a big spanish bull dog that looks like a bouncer but acts like a motivational guru himself until you miss 1-payment! He acted like a bully when she didn't pay on time and this mentee, was already in debt and Marcos advised her to take loans from her credit cards as she would easily recoup that money anyway from the program, and when she was unable to keep up the payment to Eric, after few months, she was instantly kicked out without any notice and blocked from the Wats App and Facebook group. That’s when we saw the real Eric Ho.., not so nice and kind as he appears to be on the stage and videos and showing off his charity work in Kenya... Oh yeah, once you are mentee, you will get a "special deal" to volunteer and go to Kenya with him to do this charity work and the price you pay on a special deal is much more expensive than you would have booked a ticket and accomodation and gone by yourself... Another "upsell" like his books, like the upcoming seminar tickets, some "hero" seminar, but the principal is same.. motivation and emotional roller coaster stories and "upsell" another product.. there were few guys who finished all their savings by keep buying into these programs.. One nurse lady, single, in her 50s, spent more than 30k in all of their seminars, combined with, mentorship, forex, property, public speaking etc.. all her life time saving, all that over time she did.... tut tut.

There is nothing special or no real expertise offered in business by Eric Ho because all the advice is generic and 90% are motivational. And since all motivational in YouTube videos are sourced from Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich book and the Power of Law of Attraction book etc. The 99% of the motivational gurus use these techniques to elaborate and explain their stories and persuade and convince audience to excite and take action.. And take action you will, by paying £12,000 for 1-year of generic advice and about 5 to 7 appointment with him (since he is out of the country more than half of the year giving seminars)... so how can you meet him possibly even if you want to........ Have you ever noticed that 99% of his previous mentees are completely out of the picture or out of touch after 1-year... ever wonder why? Because it finally sinks into them that it was all bullsh!t and they lost their money! Deep down inside in their heart, they know they lost their money, and there was nothing they could do after 7-day no refund policy!

If you, readers, want a motivation then I suggest you go to the horse's mouth i.e. Tony Robbins who revolutionized this game. And it is unfair how Eric Ho and John Lee do it... because they excite audiences through emotional story telling method, where their seminars are held for 2-3 days, long hours, deliberately making the audience tired and making it harder for us to think clearly and decide carefully, and prompting audience to say "yes" to many of rhetorical questions and multiples "hi5" among audiences and then encourage audience by stating they want “joint venture”, “partnerships” with only few select entrepreneurs and the offer is for "today only" sale price, and saying how Eric is only looking for only few partners only so its not for everyone (making it sound exclusive)! And he only wants few mentees only because he already has few of them already... That makes it exclusive and people sign up..... but after few months in the next seminar, he says the same thing and sign more mentees... and from different countries and it all becomes one big "social" group... hence, he loses track in 1 to 1 meetings of your progress and business plan.... and offers motivational advices only.

The contract states that you cannot ask for refund after 7-days but its hard to know, for anyone, within 7-days, what value you are getting esp. when the guy is flying around the world giving seminars when, ideally, you want a business mentor that can support you and give your advice in the time of need and hardship, not while he is posting videos of his latest gadget and business flight travels, which you, the mentees, had funded!! The irony is that, Eric present himself as the best son in the world to his parents, giving his father and mother a luxury watches and presents, when his parents, DONT know that its funded by these mentees who have worked hard to save up their money all their life and are paying £12,000! And some have really struggled to put that money together. I recall after a day or two of the seminar, both John Lee and Eric Ho, challenges the audience to see if they can raise money from their banks, friends and families and challenges everyone to make phone call during lunch break and see how much they can possibly raise…… during that day, it stays like that…. But its only until tomorrow or last day, when the offer for the “sale price for today only” is given and subconsciously the audience feels confident to take this offer because they were able to get loans or friends/family were willing to lend them a day before... see the trick??? These guys are experts, professionals in stealing your money!!! Vipers! Snakes! A bad name to Chinese/ Oriental community! A rotten tomatoes in the basket affecting all.

They are not different to those gurus, cult leaders, who builds followers and eventually brainwashes then and manipulate them.. its same technique! Eric Ho and John Lee builds followers from YouTube videos showing off gadgets, good lifestyle and happy mentees videos then you end up going to their seminar and hearing their well crafted and devised speeches, do activities, and make you feel they are great people, a guru and then challenging you to raise the money (from friends and family) then hooking you to buy their “sale price for today only” products. And to suck more out of you, there are many upsell in the pipeline...!

I saw many old ladies, retired ones, in their 60s running at the back of the room to sign up for a “LIMITED PLACES” only offers – without reading any terms and conditions! Some were signing up for Forex to use their special trading method to make unlimited amount of money whilst trading for half an hour a day! A pictures are shown of people being happy and drinking coffee and trading and making money! I think I should tell my investment banker friend in Canary Wharf to bring all their banker friends and his bosses and learn to trade so they can make all the money in the world in half an hour.... they don't have to invest millions in their sophesticated softwares that trades in micro-seconds and are competing with other banks and institutional investors!! No offence, but what do these retired ladies do to out-beat the investor bankers that uses latest tools, softwares, factors in speculations, world economy, politics, wars, currency fluctuation etc. etc.. Many of these ladies are old enough to be Eric's and John's mother! No mercy, no remorse! One mentee was charged double the normal price because she asked for 6-months extension in the mentorship, and she could not say anything about it..... but she shared her disappointment with us in the group.

Please people save your money, and if you are really need inspiration to do business then know one thing for sure...... all these types of motivation seminars are almost bullsh!t! If not ask any real business leaders from Fortune 500 or FTSE 250 companes...... and they will tell you what it really takes, and how competitive, dog eat dog world is out there...... thus the motivation part is only 5% of the business, the other 95% is pure hard work, grit, effort and sleepless nights......... to make it successful. Even that doesn't guarantee it! Almost every industry and sector have very high competition and innovations are quite rare, infrequent, and mainly big companies that invests heavily in Research & Development create it.... The money you need to invest to start the business costs almost double than your initial projection, and it takes twice a long than expected. You are alone, often questioning your own insanity at times, friends almost misunderstands you.... and once you have built your product or brand, then only you realise, you need more money to market it... and without marketing, there is no exposure and no one knows about it... so when you factor it all, the 12k you paid Eric Ho for motivation, was the money that you could have used for building your own business and marketing it...... now you are more broke than before and lack of money de-motivates and stops you from continuing to work on your start-up business. So not only Eric Ho has stolen your money but he has killed your dreams!

Please note, motivation gives you energy for temporary time only, maybe a month or two, then you go back to “default” that have built in you since your childhood! So how can one-off 2/3 days seminar change your “default”? It’s like trying to change a habit overnight. Can you? So, you can only change your “default” by consistently grinding through hard times and persevering and pushing through rejections and hard times... and having insatiable desire and hunger to succeed.. thus, only only few makes it? But if you need motivation, just go to the horse's mouth i.e. Tony Robbins who is probably best in the business. Not liars and hypocrite like Eric Ho and John Lee.

And if you really need mentor, you need go to real experts, which you can easily find on LinkedIn, industry publications, and surely you won’t have to pay 12k!!! You need experts from the industry you want to specialise in, and have contacts and networks with industry leaders, and can help you to raise finance, and be focused in you as much as you are working on your business, they push you, ask you hard questions, even gives you hard times and sometimes you hate him/her but after getting the results you want... you respect them! Thats the kind of mentor you want... what will Eric Ho and John Lee tell you? Motivate you? what about rest of the 95% grit. They hardly talk about it.. Can they introduce you to any Venture Capitalist? or Private Equity firm or Financial Institutions? Those professionals dislike motivational speakers and don’t even allow them in their circle, believe me! If you want join prestigious business clubs in London, check out London's Capital Club, Club house london, De Amstel Club, etc... and these clubs dont allow motivational gurus, if they find out they are trying to sell seminars or books etc, they are booted out! some clubs asks for your business’s revenue before joining... And these are the clubs where PE firms, VC, bankers, advisory firms i.e. 'Big 4' and 'Magic circle' professionals hang out! This is where you meet real business contacts! This is where you need to be, so they can pull you up to their bracket... not someone who is in your bracket and you have to pay 12k! Motivational gurus like Eric and John wont be allowed near that circle. They will be a laughing stock! Eric and John is just trying to ride off what Tony Robbins have achieved. He is one-off! I remember they said they want to go IPO on stock market! A motivational seminar company on stock market? In which security exchange? In Mars? What investment bank will represent them? In fact, their business is not sustaible in long term because anyone can be a motivational speaker with NLP courses and reading 100s of motivational books out there... you dont need any qualification! Thus, they are all over the YouTube now and ERic Ho and John Lee is getting competition, whether they like it or not!

So, find real expertise who can link you to bankers, lawyers, accountants, leading marketer, entrepreneurs.. NOT motivational speakers that post videos flashing their bling bling 3-5 times a day like a teenager! In fact, its so immature! I mean, Eric is like in his mid-30s and his girlfriend Marta (white girl) was a seminar attendee and Eric dumped his then girlfriend Jamie for Marta. And before Marta, the left Jamie for another attendee, her name is Trinity. But when she found out Eric was dating another seminar attendee Anna (with blond hair) she dumped him! All these girls pictures are in his FB, Insta, if you go back time... What’s sad is that Jamie still works for him, H Akademy, and have to face Eric and his new girlfriend... And Eric Ho has the heart to face her everyday with his new girlfriend in the same place. Its all over their social media... its sad! But that should tell you the credibility of the guy that you have to pay 12k!! Of course, I only came to know this all after a 1-year mentorship program and Eric was publicly (In Wats App group) arguing and fighting with another girl called Jadey, who worked for him but she left after realising everything...
A challenge will be find out how well his mentees have done in their business, besides the YouTube video testimonials, since they had taken up his program.. its hard to know their revenuce increase after few months of the program, so their company's financial statement before and after the program should be compared and validated.. Of course no one would do that... Any previous mentees up for that challenge? Well all his mentees disappear after 12 months and new arrivals are excited and buzzing every year… until they cool off at the end of the year, get kicked out from Wats App and FB group……… I hope some of those new mentee reads this and realises how it works with these con artists... Eric Ho is a fraud!

2018.03.27 05:17 paulhorne22 ERIC HO MENTORSHIP REVIEW

2018.03.27 05:16 paulhorne22 ERIC HO REVIEW

2018.03.27 05:16 paulhorne22 ERIC HO SCAM

2017.01.03 16:28 PelotonMod Team Presentation #10 - UAE Abu Dhabi (UAE)

UAE Abu Dhabi

UAE is a complete rebranding of the old Lampre-Merida team with Merida jumping ship to partner with Bahrain in the creation of a new team and Lampre dropping out after sponsoring a team since 2005, an eternity in cycling. They had to coexist with seven different secondary sponsors and leave the sport after having won the Giro overall with Scarponi in 2011, the Tour of Flanders with Ballan in 2007 and Lombardia with Cunego in 2007 and 2008 as well as 25 Grand Tour stages (13 Giro, 5 Tour, 7 Vuelta). What will be missed the most will be their iconic fuchsia-blue jersey which made them unique in a period where white, red and black dominate the World Tour. Either way, there were heavy rumours for all of Autumn that Lampre would stay as secondary sponsor in a joint Italian Chinese project which would have seen the involvement of several major Chinese firms and would have given the team 20 millions but the deal was never signed for some reason which left the team sporting director Saronni with one choice: that to sign with UAE. This means that there are no Italian teams left in the upper echelon of the sport for the first time ever.

Lampre's 2016 WT season had started with a few placements during Tour Down Under stages with Ulissi just missing the win in a restricted bunch sprint in stage 2, with a 10th overall with Rui Costa in Paris Nice and nothing of note at both Tirreno Adriatico and Milano Sanremo with the first win coming on stage 6 of Volta a Catalunya with Davide Cimolai. Either way, for most of the season the team had to hope either in a breakaway or in their three main men (hilly classics and one week races specialists Ulissi and Rui Costa plus young GC hope Meintjes) to be able to get a good result due to their sprinters Ferrari, Modolo and Cimolai having a difficult year. The highlights of their season have been Meintjes's Tour de France (8th) and Ulissi's two stages wins in the Giro.

Rui Costa has shown to be a good man for hilly classics and, most of all, a consistent one week racer. In his 2017, he will have to improve his results after a season where he's gotten several good placements but no wins being outshined by his teammate Diego Ulissi for most of the season. It's likely that he will keep following the 2016 schedule with Algarve instead of the now defunct Oman and maybe Tirreno instead of Paris-Nice as the latter is short on TT mileage this time around. The Ardennes as well as stages in the Tour will be the objectives.

After a promising 2013, Ulissi's performances appeared to have stalled but he finally managed to fully show his talent last year with good showings in the Ardennes week, the Canadian and the Giro where he grabbed two stage wins in spectacular fashion and showing unexpected climbing legs finishing 4th on stage 19. It's likely he will follow the same schedule in 2017 with the Ardennes, a good showing during the 100th Giro and the Autumn classics being the main objectives. He should also be one of Italy's captains at the World's as the parcours suits him. He'll certainly hunt that big win that'll make him more recognized outside of Italy and more than an eternal promise.

Louis Meintjes

Meintjes has had a slow but steady progression within the ranks of MTN-Qhubeka and has continued positively last year at Lampre. He has shown to have a good stamina scoring his best results in the third week of the Tour climbing from 12th to 8th and improving upon the 10th place he got in the 2015 Vuelta as his best Grand Tour result. He also got a 7th place in the Olympic Road Race showing he can excel in hilly/mountainous one day races too. In 2017, he'll build his season around the Tour de France with the hope of improving last year's result and maybe finally grab the white jersey in his last year of eligibility.

Despite not being Italian anymore, the team gets even more of an Italian soul with several international riders leaving the team with Feng, Pibernik, Arashiro and Grmay following the old team sponsor Merida in Bahrein. The two main losses are sprinter Cimolai going to FDJ and breakaway man Koshevoy going to Willier after a disappointing 2016. The other rider leaving is domestique Cattaneo going to Androni. All in all, no big losses as the team strenghtened itself noticeably with climber and GC man Atapuma, pure sprinter (and possibly leadout man for Modolo) Guardini, sprinter Swift (2nd in Milano Sanremo last year), classics man Marcato and breakaway man Laengen as well as four promising Italian neopros, notably Paris Roubaix U-23 winner Ganna and 2nd place at last year's Tour de l'Avenir Ravasi.

The team's goals will be getting another placement in the first ten at the Tour with Meintjes and maybe snapping up the white jersey as well, even though the presence of Orica's Adam and Simon Yates will make it difficult. Another goal of theirs will be a similar placement at the Giro with Atapuma although the presence of a stronger field makes it unlikely as well as a few stages with Ulissi, Conti, Atapuma or their sprinters. I'd say that the team is better suited toone day races though and that's what their season should be judged on. They now have a strong team for the Ardennes and every hilly classic out there with Ulissi and Conti having shown large improvements, Rui Costa still being Rui Costa and the addition of Atapuma which could prove useful. They also finally have a presence in Flemish races with Marcato, Ganna and possibly Swift if he decides to go for it as well as an interesting team for Milano Sanremo and similar races with Modolo, Swift, Kump, Ferrari and Consonni all being sprinters that can get over the hills although it'll mostly be about the first two of them.
Either way, they'll be interesting to watch if only to see how the high number of young develop. They have only four riders older than 30 and ten who'll be still eligible for the white jersey in the upcoming season.

2017.01.01 19:40 PelotonMod Team Presentation nr. 8 - Dimension Data (DDD)

Dimension Data

The next team is one that narrowly scraped into the 2017 WT, Dimension Data. They accumulated only 290 WT points, with the system rewarding consistency over standout performances, the efforts of Cavendish in the Tour did not amount to much given the iffy rest of the season. In fact, without the last minute decision to expand the WT from 17 to 18 teams, Dimension Data would have been a Pro-Conti team once more. Their 2017 relies on a little bit of luck and just getting some wins in; while they don't have the quality of riders compared to Sky or Movistar, little wins here and there will help them keep their licence and their new signings suggest they are moving away from just a points jersey team to one that will try and contend for UCI points.

Without a single WorldTour GC podium in 2016, Dimension Data will be hoping that changes heading into 2017. While stage-by-stage they picked up wins here and there, most notably Cav at Le Tour, they just can't make it happen consistently over a week or over a classic. Podiums overall mean more points than stage wins, and if they want to stay in the WT for 2018 and onwards, this weakness is what they need to focus on.

Rider Focus:

Edvald Boasson Hagen: The Norwegian classics specialist was probably Dimension Data's saving grace in terms of UCI points in 2016. Taking two one week stage wins (WT) over 2016 - Stage 4 of the Criterium de Dauphine (where he also got the points jersey) and Stage 7 of the Eneco Tour - he also performed well in the .HC races, with a 2nd on GC at the Tour of Norway (+ 2 stage wins), 5th at the Tour of Qatar (+ 1 stage win) and 6th at the Tour of Oman (+ 2 stage wins). He showed in 2016 that he has years in his legs still with a not bad performance at the Worlds Sprint (considering how badly Norway botched it) with 6th and 5th in the Hell of the North at Paris-Roubaix. In 2017, we will probably see the Norwegian focus more on the classics; picking up a partner in crime with Thwaites and a more extensive GC team than previous years probably limiting his opportunities (he might do some flatter ones like the Eneco Tour). Hopefully he can carry his 2016 form into 2017 and with a bit more luck come out with a couple more wins.
Mark Cavendish: Speaking about carrying your 2016 form into 2017, Mark Cavendish will certainly be hoping he can do that. A spectacular second half of the year made up for a disappointing first half. Nothing says "I've still got it" more than winning 4 stages at the Tour de France. He carried this through to Paris-Tours with a 6th place and a 2nd place at Worlds in Doha behind superhuman Sagan (so can we call that a first for the humans?). Notable .HC performances of 2016 are a GC win at the Tour of Qatar - probably suited to him without a hill in sight - and stage wins at the Tour of California (Stage 8) and Abu Dhabi Tour (Stages 2 and 4). The Manx Missile probably has another couple of years in him yet, but for Dimension Data he is their main focus in terms of the sprints heading into 2017 (and for the foreseeable future without a replacement) and they hope he can repeat some of his 2016 performances to boost Dimension Data in the points for 2017.

As said earlier, the loss of Siutsou will decrease their already marginal GC power. Meyer retires to focus on track cycling after a respectable 12th at the TDU in 2016, but they won't miss much from him. Jim heads down back into the Conti ranks after a couple of years at Dimension Data being a valiant domestique. Brammeier will probably be another loss for their classics ability, although the replacement in Thwaites is more than adequate to make up for that. Bos has been left without a contract heading into 2017, but having EBH and Cav in your squad really negates the need for a possible 3rd sprinter considering he was already only racing .HC and .1 races without much success in the past couple of years.

The Giro performance wasn't all that much to write home about, although Siutsou ended up a very respectable 10th GC. But they were never anywhere close to podium during that race. They apparently saved all their gunpowder for the Tour, and what a show - Cavendish racking in four wins, and Cummings deciding that he wanted one for himself as well. Add stellar performances from Pauwels (42nd GC) and EBH as well, and it was a very good tour indeed. But that was also it, for when the Vuelta came, the star riders stayed home and again, no one managed to podium. Their best GC rider in the Vuelta was Kudus at 38th, whom incidentally placed 37th in the Giro. At least he's stable.

One notable exclusion from this is Cumming's GC win at the Tour of Britain in 2016, but other than that glimpse of magic, their ability to ride for GC has been...shocking since they formed. While they have been able to take stages here and there - evident by Cavendish in the Tour and the Criterium de Dauphine in 2016 - they haven't been able to place well on the WorldTour in terms of GC, even in the one week races. Their signings in 2017 lead us to assume that they might be trying to nail down some points in terms of one week races; with Morton and King backing up Kudus, Berhane, Cummings and EBH, but it will take some serious improvement to even consider challenging the Grand Tours.

Their signings for 2017 suggest they want to try and challenge the big boys on the block in terms of GC in the 1 week races. Thwaites will be very handy for the classics season and as a rouleur for the flatter stage race stages. Ben O'Connor already has huge achievements next to his name, with a great year on Australia's World Tour Academy team and back for Avanti in the NRS - he will be a climber for the future. Morton is probably the biggest steal of the lot for Dimension Data. On his return to the WorldTour, we will probably see a good performance from Morton on the one week stage races as proved by his surprising win at the Tour of Utah and great performances all year round on the US circuit. While he can develop into a GT rider, he wouldn't be able to compete for podiums if he does those, and will more than likely focus on the one week races where he is very much a top contender for a podium on those races (especially those with minimal TT kilometers). Gibbons signs on permanently for Dimension Data after being a stagiare for the latter half of 2016. His most outstanding performance of 2016 was 12th at the Sparkassen Munsterland Giro (1.HC), and will probably evolve into a rouleur in his time at Dimension Data; or Thwaites might take him under his wing and develop him into a classics rider after his performances at the end of last season. Ben King isn't by any means a shabby signing and will probably be a contender for Dimension Data's leader spot at the Grand Tours if they decide to ride GC after his 42nd in the Vuelta in 2016, but if they decide to go for the points classification instead, he will probably take some share of the one week stage races from Morton and split them up.
2017 will more than likely be another tough year of avoiding slipping into PCT for Dimension Data, but the pickups of Thwaites for Classics and Morton/King for Stage races gives them a bit more of a chance of securing more UCI points in comparison to last years measly amount. While they will still ride for Cavendish and EBH as their main riders, adding a little bit of GC depth over the winter will not go un-noticed once the stage races come around.

2016.04.23 00:14 BegbertBiggs [CONFLICT] Operation Odin's Revenge

After the invasion of Eastern Europe, Finland remained silent, fearing a similar incursion over their own border. But by attacking Norwegian air bases and oil fields, Russia brought the war into the Nordic region. Following this, Finland contacted their close EU and NATO partners and the development of an elaborate operation began, planning to make Russia pay for their crimes.
The [TOP SECRET] operation plan is as follows: (Map -- All times are estimates.)

Preparation

Stage I

Stage II

Stage III

The troops from the central commands spread out. They attack/take several other strategically important settlements and air bases. The southern front is reinforced. The siege on Murmansk is reinforced, with the help of the allied fleets. A naval blockade is created blocking the passage between White Sea and Barents Sea. Naval mines will be planted and the area will be permanently patrolled.

2016.03.11 17:15 darian66 [EVENT](RNG)AGM-158C LRASM final SINKEX

A live-fire exercise, part of the LRASM program for the US Navy by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, sank the ex-HNLMS Tromp Van Amstel and HNLMS Van Speijk in waters 15,480 feet deep, 63 miles off the coast of Hawaii at 9:32 a.m. July 22.
A sink exercise (SINKEX) benefits the U.S. Navy and participating allies and partners by providing crews the opportunity to gain proficiency in tactics, targeting and live firing against surface targets, which enhances combat readiness of deployable units.
Former Navy vessels used in SINKEXs are prepared in strict compliance with regulations prescribed and enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Strict environmental compliance is observed during all SINKEXs. Each SINKEX is required to sink the hulk in at least 1,000 fathoms (6,000 feet) and at least 50 nautical miles from land.
If successful, the AGM-158C will enter full service with the USN, USMC and USAF.

Hey Tyler! Congrats for winning Amazing Race man! I'm actually a programmer also, and I'm going to join StartupWeekend soon. As a entrepreneudeveloper (not to mention winner of that event also), any advice for me joining the event? Thanks! StartupWeekend is awesome!! Go in with an open mind and be ready to work hard. The more you put into it the more you will get out of it. If you have an idea that you want to pitch, try to be really concise and clear with your vision for the company/project. If not, sit back and listen to everyone else pitch and vote for the ideas you really want to work on. As a programmer you will be in a coveted position and others will want you to join their teams. Be selective, pick the idea and the team you get a good gut feeling about. Then go out there and crush it! The 2 other co-founders of 2Truths are both guys I met at StartupWeekend...never know where it might lead for you! Good luck!
I am an entrepreneur as well. Engineer by trade. Can you tell us about some of the project you have worked on or are working on? Congrats on being an entrepreneur, it's no easy feat. I'm currently working on an app called 2Truths and a Lie. Its a dating app that helps break the ice with someone new. Next phase of development is to ramp up the gaming side of the experience. We just got selected as a finalist for a startup competition at Silicon Beach Fest in SM next week! Here is our site if you're interested: www.2truthsapp.com.
Congrats on the win! I can't believe we had 70 comments before I got a question about Hayley! This is normally the first question I get haha.
How much crazier did the editing make Hayley seem? Editors aren't magicians, you have to give them some material to work with.
Which chaenge was your favorite out of the whole race? Driving the Monster Truck was definitely my favorite challenge!
Why do people going on to TAR not learn stick shift? Learning to drive stick is harder than you'd expect, I didn't know anyone with a manual transmission car and paying $500 for lessons wasn't my style. I watched some youtube and figured I'd get the hang of it. Can't speak for everyone else but our season was pretty pathetic when it came to driving. I can guarantee next season everyone will be required to learn!
You could totally tell that the monster truck was your favorite!!! did Laura learn to drive a stick too? She took lessons in LA before we left but luckily we never had to test out how much she learned!!
Hey! she may have ended up being better than you!! lol. She was actually pretty good, when we were stuck waiting for our fanny pack in Germany she actually took the car for a spin around the parking lot. She was too good of a navigator to waste her time driving!
Now that i think about it, i don't think they ever showed you guys lost and asking for directions - did you? Oh yeah...we spent plenty of time lost and looking for directions hahah Everyone does!
Were there any countries where you couldn't find someone who spoke any English? No but Japan was definitely the hardest.
How did the casting process work since it was the first time they've done a singles season? You applied with a friend, right? - at what point did they call and say "hey, how about you dump him and do a singles season." How much did you know ahead of time of what was about to happen? Thanks for doing this AMA! I submitted a video with a friend but actually got approached at Bungalow in Santa Monica by the casting director. (I don't think she ever saw my original video) She asked if I wanted to be on Survivor and I said no but I would be on Amazing Race. Then she asked if I would be willing to be setup with a partner...I was confused but intrigued. It was during my first interview that I found out it would be a blind date. All I knew was that if I got selected i would have to be comfortable with being setup with a girl and not finding out who she was until the starting line!
That's awesome - good on you for being open to the idea! Follow-up question: did you every see the group of girls (plus the one guy) that were the set of blind dates, before they ran out at the starting line? Or was that truly the first time you had seen any of them? That was the very first time we saw any of the girls. It was very impressive how well production keeps everything real and secretive.
Pre-emptive follow up question: when did they do the cast shots? Was it after the blind dates ran out, they paused filming, did all the photos, and then resumed filming for the "go!"? We took one big group picture right after the girls came out then we started the race. The opening shots of us as couples were filmed in Dallas after the race was over.
I appreciate the answers! I think people have a hankering for knowing the behind the scenes / logistical things that are never seen. For sure, I know I was curious as to how it was all going to work before I went on as well. Happy to answer them!
What backpack did you have / how was the packing process and figuring out what was essential? Are there things you brought you ended up never using, and conversely, items you didn't have with you and wish you had packed? I had a NorthFace Terra 35, and it was pretty full. I brought 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of shorts, a few shirts, a ski jacket, a hoodie and 2 pairs of shoes. Glad I brought 2 pairs of shoes and my lucky shirt (the one I wore across the finish line). Probably could have done without at least one pair of pants and a few of the shirts. Packed pretty well overall.
I have a cool instagram picture of all my stuff laid out on my bed before I packed it up. If you're interested my IG is tylerhadams.
How long have you been watching TAR? Which season other than this past one would you have liked to compete on, whether because you would've had a good chance at winning or because of the cast of the season. I have been watching since I was a kid, wasn't religious about it but would try to catch a season here and there. Not a huge fan of TV but loved the idea of racing. If I could pick another season it would be Season 1. It was groundbreaking at the time and they had way less rules, teams were countries apart and days behind one another. Season 26 was fun but it's the difference between working at a startup or working at a corporation that has been around for 100 years...I'm a startup guy.
Hey Tyler! I have two questions for you: 1. How did you come up with the idea for your app? 2. Any advice for someone wanting to apply for the show? Thanks! 2Truths and a Lie was an idea my co-founder came up with after adding three statements and "Can you guess the lie?" to his Tinder profile. Girls were loving it and responding at an incredible rate...so we decided it was worth trying to create our own app! Off to a great start so far, big things to come!
If you want to get on the show, be interesting. Go explore, follow your own path and when you apply make sure your video SHOWS it!
Hey Tyler I'm a huge fan of both you and Laura! I loved you guys and you two were my favorite team since the first leg! I'm so happy that you guys won! My question is what is the vacation you are looking forward to the most? The ones that you won on some legs of the race. And also do you still keep in contact with Lauren and what was the funniest moment of the season that was off camera? Laura and I won trips to South Korea and New Zealand. She is going to take NZ and I am going to South Korea. I'm going to plan it around this Mud Festival Link to www.boryeongmudfestival.com should get pretty dirty!
One of the funniest moments was when we were leaving Phuket to fly to Bangkok. Matt and Ashley were sitting behind Laura and I on the plane and as soon as we took off Ashley yells "So long THAILAND!"
Those guys were my favorite team on the show but that moment was hilarious.
The waterpark/bathhouses in South Korea are pretty cool too. Cool, I'll have to check them out!
Favorite and least favorite country you visited during the Race? and why? Favorite - Peru - It was my style from the mountains to the beach with people hiking and surfing. It's the kind of place I would love to go back to and get lost and dirty!
Least - Japan - Really do like Japan, but we spent the night in an internet cafe full of anime porn and tissues. Not the most pleasant experience.
What was your favorite moment from the amazing race? Also, where do you buy your clothes?? Driving a floating hot tub down the Amstel in Amsterdam was pretty awesome! Clothes, who needs clothes?
But seriously if you want the best pair of pants you have ever worn check out outliers. Link to outlier.cc I only own one pair because they are so damn expensive but they are the best! Sponsorship opportunities???
I think the idea behind your road trip and website is awesome! Something I've wanted to do for awhile. Did you bring your drone along and will you be putting together a video of the whole trip? Thanks! The drone has been a little challenging, we crashed it the first week and haven't gotten as much footage as we would like. The good news is that it is back in action and we plan on taking some shots later today in Moab. Besides the drone we have strapped a bunch of gopros to my truck and are going to put together a pretty gnarly timelapse of our trip once it's over!
That's too bad about the drone. I'm sure the GoPro's got you some sweet footage though anyway. I'll have to watch out for it. Enjoy the rest of your trip. PS - Your '10 ideas' were the inspiration behind an article we're going to publish in our staff newsletter. That was some good stuff! Awesome! Shoot it my way when you publish, I'd love to check it out.

Hey Shortfuse, big fan here. If you could fight any current or former UFC champion, who would you choose? Tito Ortiz because he didn't pick me on TUF lol or Matt Hughes cause he was always a cocky prick to me !
I'd like to hear more about the way Hughes treated you too. What happened? Did you ever read that summary of his autobiography? He's just a terrible person. Ha he was just a cocky ass hole
Shortfuse via calf crank. Lol.

Looking over your record, I noticed you beat Glover Teixera. What do you remember about that fight, how tough was he, and could you do it again today? I remember dominating him for 3 rounds and that he punched very hard lol, yes I would beat him again.
Do you have any stories you could share from your season of TUF that didn't get aired? Also, how does it feel to know you are the only middleweight from that season to still be in the UFC? Do you feel that some others should get another shot? Ya I got one, the night before my fight with Rory Singer I took an old whiskey bottle and filled it with apple juice then proceeded to pretend like I was getting all liquored up in front of him he threw a fit and stomped around throwing a fit saying he couldn't believe how disrespectful I was, I think I really got in his head and it showed in our fight lol good times, Rorys a good dude and a great coach but I had to do what I had to do and being on that show makes you a little crazy
Do you think if Dana White handled himself with a little bit more professionalism the UFC might already be at the level of, let's say the NFL? I'm pretty sure the commissioner never says "fuck, or we got fucked" Also, do you think we will see the day ufc Fighters make the type of money boxers do? I'm not sure i think people like Danas whites honesty, yes I do think the money will be there maybe not Mayweather money because its more spread out not just one guy making all the money on a card But it will be unfortunately after my time.
Are you worried about sustaining debilitating physical injury/brain damage? No not really the scare of injury is more in training, I've never been knocked out so for now I'm not to worried about brain injury if that ever happens I will consider retirement
Hello! Tell me what is your dream? What is your main aim? To be happy and make enough money to support my family , travel the world as much as possible and inspire people.
Would you rather win by KO, or submission? Nothing beats the adrenalin rush of a KO.
Who's the better receiver, Randy Moss or Jerry Rice? I like jerry rice he won more and was more respectable off and on the field
Hey Ed, Thanks for doing this AMA. I am an aspiring mixed martial artist training out of Raleigh, NC and I was wondering if you had any advice for someone like me? I'm currently on a weight loss journey coming down from 380lbs and I've already lost almost 100 lbs and use the goal of one day fighting in the UFC as my motivation to be at a weight that suits me. I still have a long way to go skills wise and I'd like to fight ideally at 185 much like yourself. Anything I should be doing that works for you as far as your training regimen? Train harder then you think you can surround your self with positive people how have your best interest in mind and truly care for you. I Wish you the best !
What made you take the fight with Jacare, and be the only UFC fighter to fight in Strikeforce? Ya wasn't the best decision of my career I can thank my X agent for that one, I was broke and needed a fight bad reason to take a fight lol. But I also thought I had a chance to win and it would have rocketed me in to the top 10
Where do you see MMA as a sport in five years? Bigger and better then it is now
What goes through your head during a staredown and the weigh-ins in general? I'm hungry and thirsty lol, no I get pretty pumped up adrenalin is pretty high you think how prepared you are and all the hard work and sacrifice you have made to be there.
What is fighters pay like? how much of it goes towards training camp and travel costs etc? It depends every fighter gets different pay some guys spend a lot on camp some dont I prob spend around 10% on camp the UFC covers most of our travel expenses .
How far back do you go with Chael Sonnen? I've heard him say a couple of times that he's been with you literally since the beginning of your career. What exactly happened with your falling out with Team Quest, and what was it like being on Ken Shamrock's team? I started training with chael in 2002 at team quest, there was never really a falling out I was sick of losing teammates/training partners and coaches basically management didn't keep up there end it was hard to leave but was best decision for my career I am still close with all my old teammates.
Best of luck in your fight in a couple of weeks. Have always enjoyed watching your fights and I'd like to see you put together another run like the one you did before the Shields fight. Being on Kens team sucked I got ripped off out of all the great coaching staffs on the TUF series that was pro the worst.
Greets from one ginger to another. Any ginger-prejudice or trash talk happen in the UFC? Stay strong and fight-on my ginger-friend! Lol no, no one in there right mind wants to mess with a bad ass red head they know we are crazy and most of us don't know the meaning of quit lol.
Other than not getting picked by Tito, how was the TUF experience? Would you do it all over again? If you could've been coached by anyone in the world, who'd it be? The experience was good for my career, yes I'd do it again hopefully with a better coaching staff lol, man I'm not sure there is some great coaches out there I've worked with some of the greats but am still always looking to improve my skills.
Ed, how do you feel about Leben's recent retirement? You guys were long time teammates right? Also what's your opinion on the UFC pay scale? It has been highly criticized recently by the media and former UFC fighters. I think it was a smart decision I didnt wanna see him suffer any serous injurys we are still super close and he's doing great he will be in my corner for my up coming ufc fight, I think we deserve to get paid more yes but I'm not gonna complain I make a fair living I do think we deserve some sort of retirement and long term medical coverage.
Are you going to be in the new UFC video game? I hope so. I hope so I'm the only guy who's been in the UFC this long and not made it in one of the games it sucks, I wish my son could play me in a video game how cool would that be .
If you never got into the sports industry, what would you be doing right now? Hard to say maybe working for my uncles drilling company ABS.
What other MMA programs do you follow? I love the Bellator championships, but I notice a majority only follow UFC. Is there any room in MMA for smaller competitions, or is UFC going to end up completely dominating the sport? Good luck BTW! I follow a lot of organizations mainly because teammates, friend, or to see how Guys i competed against are doing and I'm a fan of the sport in general that's how I got in to it in the first place.
There's most defiantly room for smaller organizations but yes UFC will continue to dominate they have the majority of the best fighters and pay the most.
Based on your experience on TUF, what one thing would you change about the TUF show for all future fighters? Man alot lol , let us read we were not allowed books or magazines
Do you have a favorite zombie film? Not really a zombie guy I like the walking dead but more of the how you would survive if the world went in to Kayos aspect.
If someone hasn't seen you fight, which of your fights would you want them to see first? Maybe the fight vs kyle noke I was able to show off some of my jujitsu skills
Why do you think, besides you, Ken Shamrock's team did so poorly on TUF? Because half the guys weren't experienced enough and we had a the most un experienced coaching staff in history except ken who was never there .
Unrelated question: are you Jewish? No im am a spiritual person but no religious affiliation I enjoy reading the differences in religious beliefs and how they affected our history and current events
When you step into the cage, are you still feeling the effect of your weight cut? Not usually I am bigger then ever and make weight easier each time we got it down to a science I have made the mistake of rehydrating or using the wrong minerals or IV vitamins that my body didn't like and felt sluggish and fought like crap.
Hey Ed, what did you think of the fights last night, and what fight in the future are you most excited for? I didn't watch the fights last night we had 8 fighters from my gym Trials MMA fight yesterday we went 6-2.good night night for us, but I was hoping Texiara would win, and my next fight may 10th
Shortfuse, big fan here! My question is what advice would you give to someone looking to get into mma and professional fighting? Start training for the enjoyment of it first no one starts playing basketball because they think there going to make it to the NBA they do it because its fun, if your already an aspiring martial artist or wrestler and the skills are there find a good camp with solid people who have your best interest in mind .
What's your favorite meal(s) when not training? Also, how did you feel when Dana gave you a contract at the finale, too? Lol is it clique to say pizza and beer ha, na prob a fat juicy Bone in rib eye!! At the time I was still super upset I lost it set in later and I was vary happy and thankful.
What do you think of the trt ban? Do you support the use for some athletes and not for others? I absolutely agree with the ban, its bull shit its a way for guys to cheat i was vary happy about the ban they need to start test more and for HGH as well.
Big fan of yours Short Fuse! How is Colorado treating you? Saw you training with my people at Easton TC in Boulder in a Facebook pic. Colorado is great love training with the Easton crew great bunch
Who would you say the toughest guy you've ever fought was keeping in mind that you never had the opportunity to stand toe-to-toe and chin-to-chin with yours truly, the Queen of Clean Keith Sardine? Lol nice!! Prob Jacara or Texiera
Who chose your nickname? We're there any other nickname options you were thinking about? Who has the most bizarre nickname? Who has the best? My good friend Chris Leben gave me the nick name because I used to have a really short temper when we were younger, I tried iron man eddie Herman looking back that would have been pretty bad lol. one of the funniest was Eddie the bath room ellis lol, worst is prob ricky the horror story lol.
Haha awesome! How's Chris Leben been recently? If it had come up, would you have fought him in the UFC? There seems to be a divide between fighters on whether they'd fight training partners or friends. Not a chance we always said we wouldn't fight we were more like brothers we agreed that the only way would be if one of was champ and the other #1 contender and we got a million bucks each witch at the time was un heard of money for MMA lol
Makes sense! What's your opinion on changes to MMA rules that some fans talk about, like no time limits, or allowing soccer kicks? Not a fan of either
What's your favorite beer? Man that's always changing all name some classics, geniuses, negra modelo, Amstel ( out of the tap in Europe ), some local faves 90 shilling, widmeir heifeweizen
How often do you get one those mythical "undisclosed bonuses"? Are they awesome? Iv never gotten a mythical one lol got a few small ones over the years but they tend to keep getting smaller.
What are your thoughts on the Harlem Struggle? Funny !!!
How many fighters do you think are juicing without a TRT? Without naming names, how many are main card guys? Prob at least 50% prob closer to 75% main card guys but hard to say. im proud to say I've done it all these years all natural.
Have you ever loss any teeth?! Yes my front 2 in a car accident when I was 15 I got implants that eventually wore out and I'm in the process of getting them replace not fun.
What about in a fight? Nope.
How much do you usually weigh in the cage at fight time? 205 ish
I just started BJJ October '13, any advice? Not looking to get incredible, just have fun. I think I missed my prime to start thinking serious (I'm 20) Lol u have plenty of time to get serious I didn't start tell I was 21 my advice is have fun take your time and enjoy , it will change your life.
What do you have to say about your journey towards joining the UFC? It was cool I had a lot of tough fights to preparing me for the UFC .
Hey Ed, who's the best up and comer coming out of your gym? Man that's tuff one right now prob Kris Hocum or female amateur Samantha Gilliland is gonna be really good.
Eh man. whatd ya think if the jones v texiera fight last night? I didn't watch heard jones dominated figured that might happen.
Who do think is gonna win out of Weidman and Machida? Man should be good prob Weidman but machida is a bad man!
Prime Fedor vs Cain under Pride rules. Who wins and how? Cain all day American GNP
How can You, and other MMA/UFC Fighters take such a beating? I don't know I've never taking a beating , I mean I've been beat and in some wars but no one has ever beating me to a pulp or knocked me out. But yes I understand your point this sport Is not for every one and you have to pretty dam tough to make it in this sport.
What's your favorite/most successful KO combo or setup? Dirty boxing/ upper cuts
Whats up ed. How have you seen mma/the UFC change since you were on TUF? Maybe in terms of fans or how fighters are treated or anything else. Just the general knowledge and acceptance about the sport has grown so much, when people say are u watching fights tonight they are talking about MMA not boxing.
Hey Ed ... what's it like to see the kids on TUF now after you were a part of some of the integral moments that built TUF into what it is now? There's really athletic tough dudes coming up excited to see how the season pans out.
Of the two guys involved in the PPV opener last night (Holloway and Fili) who goes further in the UFC? I thought (and still think) that Fili has a way higher ceiling than Holloway, but Holloway had the experience edge. Ya I meet fili a few times he was a cool kid I hope he dose well.
Make this your entrance theme: Link to www.youtube.com. Edit: full song here: Link to www.youtube.com. Lol.
Who is your favorite current champ as a fighter? Jose Aldo is fun to watch.
What's the worst injury you've sustained during your career? ACL tear in my knee.
Did you watch the fights last night? Nope
What are your thoughts on Joe Lauzon? He's a bad ass
I don't like weight cutting. I think fighters should make weight right before they enter the cage. What do you think about the idea of mat side weigh ins? Sounds dangerous people would still try and cut weight
The current system of weight cutting is dangerous too. Mat side weigh ins would eliminate the motivation to cut because fighters wouldn't have any time to recover and thus they couldn't try to fight 10-20 pounds heavier than their opponent. A lot of guys do it much more healthy than u know its not the old don't eat or drink for a week bs like in high school wrestling I eat dinner the night before and breakfast the day of shit i had a steak last night and I have to make weight in less then 2 weeks , the cut still sucks but there's definitely an art to it, its just part of one on one competition if u don't compete its hard to comprehend
calmly rushes in Holy shit. Uhm, as someone is who actively pursuing a career in MMA, what advice do you have? I am actively participating in grappling tournaments, hold a Green Belt in Goshin Do Karate and a Level 1 in Hayastan Grappling (similar to a Blue Belt in BJJ). Thank you! Enjoy the ride surround your self with positive people who have your best interest in mind train hard but smart listen to your body!!
It's an interesting ride. My body yells at me quite a bit now actually. Right on signing out thanks for all the great questions good chatting it up with every one and go blazers #ripcity big win tonight for Portland !!
I'm going to be seeing you fight in Cincinnati, you planning on having an after party? Yes working on it not sure yet but all post on my twitter when I know !
How excited was your daughter when she won the free braces. I bugged all my friends until they went on and voted. Ha she was happy thanks for all the help supporting I was prob the happiest it saved me like 4k lol thanks!
BJ Penn. Anderson Silva. George St Pierre. Jon Bones Jones Anderson silva because he was the champ during most of my career so far and I always thought my style would match up well with him.
Do not confuse Ed Herman with Ed Herrmann. Who.
For some reason, I thought you were the dude who said BJJ wasn't effective and got armbarred by Noguiera. haha. Ya not me that was Dave Herman's dumb ass more then half of my wins are by submission lol
Good AMA man, you're answering a shit ton of questions. You're going to get a lot of reddit street cred for this. Lol day off on the couch relaxing no prob
Hey Ed! Thanks for doing the AMA when you aren't training / fighting what else do you like to do with your time , hobbies etc. I enjoy Traveling, eating different food, spending time with my family, snowboarding, ridding Quads and dirt bikes, camping, hiking, drinking good beer and whiskey having a good time with my friends. Regular guy stuff haha and of coarse watching football GO SEAHAWKS !!
You ever thought about using the red by Chevelle as entrance music lol. Not familiar with that song all check it out , think im coming out to lynard synard, simple man next fight.
Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or a duck-sized horse? Duh a duck sized horse nice try lol
I watch UFC and I've never heard of you. Your thoughts? Ya that sucks I get no love they've never really promoted me that much but I have been in the UFC for 9 years and have almost 20 fights for them I question how big of a fan you are ? the casual fan may not know me but any of the hard core fans for sure have seen me fight and know I lay it all on the line to best of my ability every time I fight I recommend you try and find one of my fights to watch I think you would enjoy.
