I love frameworks so I’ve listed the four items that Brendon mentioned below along with my take on each. Eben: Right, your partner is trying to talk to you about something but you’re getting triggered and activated and then they hand you this note and it comes to you and it says, “Eben . . . “but it was written by me and it says, “Eben take a breath right now, close your eyes, calm down, regulator yourself if you have to take a break, but ...

2018.09.07 17:24 Gu_Tzu A draft guide and write-up of literature that you might find useful (x-post from r/ExNoContact)

The content of this post is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on this post. This is merely an anecdotical sum of what has been working in my experience.
Hello everyone.
I’m Gu_tzu, and this is me trying to make some order in the resources I've been consulting thus far and the experiences I maturated. I'm posting this in the form of a guide, in the hope that someone else finds it useful. Most of the content in here is anecdotal: a collection of what worked (and didn’t work) for me, and of what I think will work in the future, as I’m still halfway there. Take everything with a grain or two of salt, and feel free to adapt it to your own situation. Every break-up is different, and everyone heals in his own way, at his own rate. Also sorry for eventual errors – English is not my mother tongue. Also, formatting is likely to be crap. I'll fix it at the best of my possibilities. Bear with me in the meantime.
We all have different stories, we might have just be broken up today, or we might have been dumped a year ago. If you’re reading this, chances are that you’re still healing. I’ll take it from the start, and you’ll be able to jump in at whichever point you think you’re currently at.
However, before we start, an exhortation: cut off all contact with your ex. Don’t give in to temptation. Should you feel like contacting them in any way, you talk to anybody else. A friend. A relative. You come to BreakUp or ExNoContact. You lurk. You write. But you don’t contact your ex. For the time being, looking at social media counts as contact. We’ll see why later. For now, trust me. The sole exception is if you live together or have children together, in which case you will minimize contact and keep it as civil as possible.
The fall
Here you are. Aching, broken, empty. Desperate, maybe. Lost, sad, suffering. There’s a mixture of emotions you are feeling right now, and it is your own unique mixture. Let it in. Feel it. All the pieces of you are now shattered to the ground, and you don’t know how to start picking it up. You’re pathetically trying to collect them and put them back together, but you can’t, and you don’t even have the glue. It sucks. You might want to minimize, trying to think how much better you have it than many others, who suffer the loss of a limb or a severe illness. Truth is, some of the people in here have overcome extreme personal crisis, loss of a relative, sickness, business collapse… and they would undergo these crisis all over again rather than experiencing another break-up (there’s a couple of post in here and BreakUp, but I didn’t save them, you’ll have to trust my word). You’re not having it much better than anybody else. You’re in excruciating pain, and pain is personal.
Don’t reproach yourself, and don’t ignore it. You are entitled to feel whichever emotion you’re feeling. Allow the thousand shades of pain to get into you. Allow yourself to feel them. Pain is neither good nor bad, it’s just a signal that you’ll have to understand in order to overcome. But all the rationalization of the world won’t help you right now. That’s a battle you’ll have to fight later.
For now, take the time to suffer, and let it all out. Cry until you have no more tears. Then cry some more. Bring yourself to doing it. The pain won’t end here, so the more you get out of your system now, the easier your journey will be. If the stress of the loss is too great, or if there’s a pre-existing condition, you might start having harmful or suicidal thoughts. If that’s the case, always, always, always seek for professional help. You can find useful resources on the sidebar of this sub. We love you. If you have job responsibilities, it could be a good idea to take some time off. It is better to lose a few work days, rather than risking doing some damage. A distraction error costed me two weeks worth of work – needless to say what I was thinking about when I made it. It could be a good idea to have a list of “safe places” where you could go and cry in case of a breakdown emergency. A couple of times I hid in the basement of the research institute I work in, just to crouch down and cry. Another thing you can do, is starting to monitor your mourning. Use a chronometer to measure the longest time you mourn. That’s your floor. Aim to progressively reduce the time you allow yourself to mourn. Don’t be too strict, and be indulgent. You’ll have plenty of time to push yourself hard, in the future. This is also the time to lean on your friends, family, and whoever else you think could support you (this sub, for example). The first few weeks, people will be understanding and welcoming. Enjoy the warmth of those around you, but do not use them as a distraction. They are here to stay by your side while you heal, but the healing you’ll have to do yourself. Don’t lean to just one person, as it might be overwhelming for him or her. If your relationship caused you to lose contact with friends and family, this is a good time to get in touch again, and this time for good. Some will forgive more easily than others, but you’ll always find someone willing to help. *From this point onwards, no matter what your partner demands, you won’t neglect the people that are closest to you. *
Getting back up
The first step towards recovery is acceptance. Not acceptance of the breakup itself, but acceptance of your current state. Acknowledge that you’re miserable and broken. When you’re done crying, you’ll realize that the only thing you can do is to get back up. In time, you won’t mourn so much anymore, not even if you force yourself to. It will be a rollercoaster, and sometimes it will still sting. But it will get less and less painful. Likewise, there’s a limit to the support and apprehension you can ask from others. After a few weeks, people will start thinking that it’s past time that you get over it. It won’t matter how you’ll feel by then, there’s just that much negativity those people can bear for you. So the most constructive thing you can do, for both yourself and others, is to get back up. You might not yet feel like doing it. But if there’s one thing that there’s consensus about, it is that you have to make a constructive decision and follow through it. Set goals, and work towards them. It’s ok to have ambitious goals, but most importantly you’ll have to set daily goals and short-term achievements. There are two main reasons to do so. From an utilitarian point of view, the busier you keep yourself, the less time you’ll have to think of what has been and won’t be anymore. But, more importantly, each goal you reach is a tiny brick in the skyscraper of your confidence. Set realistic goals, and take the time to appreciate yourself when you reach them.
Likewise, you should start nurturing yourself. This is tricky. If you’re here, it most likely means that you were looking for someone else to make you happy and whole. And here’s the counter-intuitive breakthrough: no person in the world will ever make you happy. This was the hardest-to-believe truth I came to face until now. Happiness is the result of your own wellbeing and your own confidence. It is cultivated from within, not provided from without. If you’re not happy by yourself, you’ll always end up in co-dependency. As long as you’ll rely on someone to provide the happiness you seek, you’ll always end up draining others to the point where they won’t be able to stay with you any longer, no matter how much they love you. I know it sounds impossible right now, but you’ll have to learn to be happy by yourself, even in your loneliness. If you’re not happy by yourself, you’ll always be needy, and neediness is the number one attraction (and relationship) killer. Most of us have been there. Moreover, there’s the general idea by which you’ll never attract anybody who’s more emotionally mature than you. Therefore, if you’re unhappy (and emotionally immature), you are likely to attract another person who’s as needy and immature. You’ll hurt each other until one of the two will break. To nurture yourself, it is of great help to acquire healthy habits. Start taking care of your diet (be indulgent every now and then – chocolate helps!). Take care of your body. Keep yourself clean and groomed. Appreciate yourself, and the way you look. No matter how much improvement you can make, you are perfect. Improve nevertheless. You can channel your anxiety and anger into developing healthy habits. Make these negative emotions be your drive, your motivation. Exploit them to develop healthy habits. Six months, twelve, two years from now, this motivation will be gone. But the habit will remain, and that’s what will make you improve limitlessly.
Educate yourself, practice what you learn
Besides the ones that I mentioned, there are a few things you can start doing to make this learning experience (every failure is a learning experience) more profitable. These things will help in every aspect of your life, as long as you’ll live. I’m including the already mentioned ones to make it a copy-pastable, complete list:
0. Practice the No Contact Rule
NC is not a mind trick to get your ex back. It is meant to give you both space. What she does with that space is none of your concern. Focus on yourself. Heal, and become the best version of yourself that ever existed. Don’t do it for anybody but yourself.
1. Have a healthy diet.
2. Make some physical activity. Hit the gym.
3. Take good care of your hygiene and look.
4. Set goals, and strive to achieve them. Focus on your career.
5. Read literature on how to overcome breakups and depression
More in the resources section.
6. Start keeping a journal
Get your feelings in writing, as honest and detailed as possible. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll learn about yourself and your surroundings. Do it daily, no exceptions. This also helps with the next point.
7. Start practicing mindfulness
Probably one of the most important habits you never developed. Mindfulness is the act of observing yourself, your actions and emotions in real time, and use your observation to exert full control of your actions. You’ll stop going in auto-pilot, and re-thinking a better course of actions when it’s too late. I would write more about it, but there’s really too much to say. I’m adding some very useful resources instead, by someone who can explain it way better than me. Mindfulness is an essential requisite for the next step.
8. Study and improve inner game
Inner game refers to overcoming the obstacles that your psychology is setting for yourself in your own mind. Limiting beliefs, fears, self-doubt, and so forth. A stronger inner game will mean much more confidence and more wellbeing. As the previous step, you’ll be able to find more in the resources section.
9. Learn how to cope with strong negative emotions and jealousy
Jealousy is a monster. All the other emotions will get weaker in time, but jealousy is subtle and poisonous. It can strike even when you think you’re over it. Eventually, the person who dumped you will start dating others. Someone else will take your place in their bed. Someone else will share the Saturday afternoon with them. Someone else will be welcomed in their families. When? It doesn’t matter. Sometimes, it’s after months. In my case, it was less than a week. Sometimes, it’s even before you got dumped. It matters not, and for your own good you’d better assume it’s happening right now. You are likely to feel jealousy, and it will undermine all your progresses, unless you learn how to fight it. In this regard, I strongly advise Actualized.org’s video on the topic, as well as the exercises in How to Fall Out of Love (see below). Are they in a rebound relationship? Will it last? You do not care.
10. Let hope die
If jealousy is your nemesis, hope is her henchman. As long as you’ll hope to get back together with your ex, you’ll never fully heal. Hope enhances jealousy, hope is a sensitizer. Should you come across a negative stimulus (let’s say, you check their IG and see pictures of them with your replacement), hope will amplify the hurt. Understand this: at your current state, it’s nearly impossible for you two to have a healthy, successful relationship, even if you were to get back together. You’re not to be, and for sure you’re not to be in your current state. Work on yourself. Improve. Be the best you can be. Only then, you’ll be able to give yourself to others and develop healthy, enriching relationships. Your former partner is expected to do the same, but don’t give that for granted. Will you get another chance? Possibly. Hopefully, you’ll have maturated enough to understand whether or not you two are now ready. Alas, as Aragorn said, “but this is not the day!”. Truth is, hope might be the hardest to kill. Thus far, I haven’t found an effective strategy to do it. Eventually, it will die of old age.
11. Build a strong social circle
The more you’ll improve your life, the more people you will attract. The wider your social circle, the more chances and opportunities will come your way. The more people you’ll know, the more likely you are to find your next special one.
Useful resources
Some great men (and some less great, too) have already experienced what we’re going through, and turned their experiences into useful materials. This saves us a lot of time. We can collect and assimilate centuries worth of knowledge with just a few books and videos. This is not healing per se, but it helps developing the tools we need. Here are some useful resources that I found.
On breaking NC and getting back with your ex
I know. You can’t think of anything else. You think that getting her back is the only path to happiness left. You most likely have read some guides already, or stumbled upon some life coach on YouTube. You’ve designed your Machiavellian plan to get back. You’re ready.
No you’re not.
Who are you kidding? You know you’re not.
How can I tell? Because if you are focusing on getting her back, it means that you have learned nothing from your failure. You’re as immature as you were when they dumped you. Potentially, you also regressed. Bear with me sounding harsh, this is though love. Because I love you, trust me. I’ve been there, and countless others in here have been as well. What do you think you’ll achieve by getting back together? Do you think you’ll be able to fix your issues, work it out somehow? Do you think you’ll have peace of mind? Do you think you’ll be happy? You’re just getting back to a situation that didn’t work out in the first place, without the knowledge nor the maturity on how to fix it, and with the awareness that you can’t trust the other person to stick with you. You’re going to hurt the both of you so much. Do you want to get back together? Great. One more reason to get over it. Focus on yourself. Love yourself. Then, only then, and only if you still want to, you can consider giving the relationship a second chance.
This is still an unpolished draft. I might update it and repost it every now and then. Suggestions and contributions from more experienced users are always welcome.
I hope this will help you. Stay strong.
TL;DR: this is supposed to be read wholly or not at all, sorry.

2018.09.07 16:07 Gu_Tzu A draft guide and write-up of literature that you might find useful

2016.12.04 11:38 somefrommars Antinatalist Revelation: Why You Are The Only One Who Feels Lonely & Depressed

I have come to a big revelation in regards to antinatalism. I remember when I was still in school; I was the only one who hated it the most and I'd make excuses to my mom so I could miss many schooling days. I hated school with a burning passion.
Then as I reached high school and started getting bullied; I became even more irritated with the prospect of waking up 5 days of the week, to go to school.
Eventually I did homeschool, yet I lacked confidence and had social anxiety; so I had no friends.
When I was able to articulate really well, what was wrong with how we are raised and life itself; I'd talk for many hours per session over the phone with my enlightened friend.
I'd write detailed statuses on facebook on why christianity is bullshit and how life would be better I was born to enlightened parents like carl sagan or eben pagan. I'd obviously only get 1 like or no like at all when I wrote these statuses; as most of the people on my facebook weren't close to me and probably didn't give a damn.
I have realized so many things not just about AN(good things), but other aspects of life that my mind is literally fueled with thoughts everyday. I ask my self questions like why didn't my parents take me to go-kart racing so I could become the next lewis hamilton, when I am older instead of forcing me to go to school etc.
I was browsing instagram the other day and noticed how a lot of people on it, come off as so happy while they go about their lives. Many people on instagram seem to travel, have loving partners, were never bullied at school, were always popular and never had a reason to question life.
So I came to the conclusion that the was a large disparity with how I see life and how your typical individual does. There's a reason many people don't see the reason for AN and are typically happy or can endure life -- that is because they are living under an illusory cloud or have no reason to be depressed like us.
It all makes sense to me now. Many of these people didn't have to go through what we antinatalists went through; so they go on to breed because they see nothing wrong with life. While people like me pinpoint what is wrong with life and think about it everyday.
Natalists don't see any problems with life itself, while ANs see a multiverse of problems with life.
So in light of that, this is why we as ANs can't resonate with most people.

I've been an entrepreneur for 8 years now, I've had 2 restaurants, joined a Network Marketing Company and had been an academic consultant for 10 years.
I failed at my first restaurant and the network marketing thing, but I have been getting momentum as a consultant since 2010 and the last restaurant I help established (2012) as a partner is now a great success.
SO, I have been thinking about some of the things I've learned in this journey, and my favorite insights come from Online Marketers that I have taking courses from since 2008, specially: Eben Pagan, Frank Kern and Ramit Sethi.
Here they go:
As I said, these are my 3 personal favorites. I do not mean to convey that these are the most important or the only ones to care about. These made a difference in my life and were responsible to overcome past failures, personal fears and ever present insecurities.
If you feel inspired, feel free to share your favorite insights you have learned from others.
